His obituary in The News-Messenger provides some insight into his “World’s Greatest” title: He was born in Ballville Township in 1876 and Weaver has this to say about him in the book: “Guy Emerson grew up on the river. As a young inquisitive boy, he fished, swam, skipped rocks and plied the river rapids on a homemade raft during the warm summer months.
