If our service were not here there would be much more complaints of the lack of transportation options at the Port of Hilo and more cruisers would stay on board ship rather then having to walk over 2 miles just to get to down town Hilo. We are a family owned local business trying to accommodate as many passengers as safely as possible and have been doing so for 6 seasons. We encourage all of our valued passengers to take their time and experience the Hilo area by getting off the buses and exploring, not just looking out the window. Our buses travel at an average of 25 miles per hour and have bar hand holds for anyone choosing to stand. We have been doing our best to keep up with our unexpected increase in passenger volume and limiting ticket sales when we are at capacity. Our area has been going through lots of changes such as the long closure of Volcanoes National Park due to the recent eruptions, and because of this there have been transportation companies that have gone out of business.

Unfortunately we do not have the pool of drivers available for hire as on the mainland, because you need a specialized license and 2 years experience. We have over 250 seats on 9 buses that service our route and because of the popularity of our Hoppa-On bus service, due to the low price and convenience, not to mention our friendly and informative drivers, we are doing our best to hire more drivers. Every passenger has the option to wait for another bus if they prefer not to stand, this has nothing to do with management. It is designed for passengers to explore the stops rather then staying on one bus for the whole route.
